The most nodes a query's predicates may hold once every shared node is counted on each path that reaches it. Interpreters read a predicate as a tree: evaluate once per row, and the SQL compiler into text that repeats a shared operand wherever it appears. So eq(n, n) nested thirty deep is thirty-one objects and a billion nodes of work. Real queries are tens.
